The ASET 3-step Bamboo Eradication Programme is the process we use to permanently kill bamboo on Sydney and Western Sydney properties. It’s not a same-day removal — it’s a 6-month to 2.5-year programme that kills the underground rhizome system before extracting the root ball. The reason we treat it as a named programme rather than a one-off service is that bamboo eradication only works when every step happens in the right order, at the right time, with the right consistency.
Why we treat bamboo removal as a programme, not a job
The rhizome biology you can’t shortcut means one-day removals fail. The 3-step structure is a commitment, not a slogan. Each step depends on the biology of the previous one — Step 2 doesn’t start until Step 1 has done its work, Step 3 only starts after Step 2 is complete.
Step 1 — Kill the rhizomes first
We cut every shoot to ground level and inject concentrated glyphosate directly into the freshly cut stems within seconds. The concentration matters — too dilute and the rhizome shrugs it off. The freshly cut stem matters — the vascular system carries the herbicide straight into the rhizome. We repeat the visit every 2-6 weeks for the next 3-6 months, treating new shoots the moment they emerge. We watch for declining shoot counts and thinner, paler new growth as signals that the rhizome is running out of energy. Duration of Step 1: typically 3 to 6 months before we even consider Step 2.
Step 2 — Dig out the weakened root ball
A live root ball is rigidly anchored. A chemically-weakened one comes out. We manually extract using hand tools — no machinery, because most bamboo is in garden beds and a mini-excavator would destroy the entire bed. The physical labour is real — bamboo root balls are dense and stubborn even after chemical depletion. All extracted material goes to landfill — never replanted, never composted, never mulched on-site. A single missed rhizome fragment can restart the whole problem.
Step 3 — Maintain over 2 to 3 growing seasons
Bamboo can spark back even after Steps 1-2. We return quarterly across 2-3 growing seasons looking for any isolated new shoot that might have emerged from a missed rhizome fragment. Each one gets the same cut-stem injection treatment. We sign off on the eradication as complete only after two consecutive maintenance visits find no regrowth.
What the programme typically costs
We quote per stage, not a single lump sum. Step 1 upfront based on the site visit. Step 2 quoted when we get there based on what Step 1 reveals. Step 3 per visit, only when work is actually needed. See the full cost guide for typical ranges by job size.
Why we structure it this way
Honest pricing on a programme that depends on biology, not estimation. Customer keeps control — can pause between stages, talk to us, change direction. Pay-as-the-bamboo-dies model rather than commit-everything-upfront. The trust signal — if a competitor quotes one fixed number for the whole job, they’re either lying about the timeline or planning to disappear after Step 1.
