Density of the existing rhizome network matters; long-established bamboo has more stored energy to burn through. How long does it take to fully remove bamboo in Sydney?
On-site time varies from half a day (small clumping) to 5 days (mature running with barrier). The full project time including the 6-week follow-up runs from a few days for clumping to 12-16 weeks for large running stands. The follow-up isn’t optional — it’s what guarantees the bamboo doesn’t come back.
Why is there a 6-week follow-up?
Because the smallest viable bamboo fragment is just 50mm. Even with thorough excavation, 5-15% of jobs have a regrowth shoot appear at the 6-week mark from a fragment that survived. The follow-up catches and removes it — that’s the difference between a permanent removal and a temporary one.
Can you do the whole job in one day?
For most clumping jobs and small running jobs, yes. For mature running stands (5m+ canopy), the rhizome network is too large — 1 day of excavation typically only covers 30-50% of the network. We’d rather take 3 days and remove it properly than promise 1 day and leave half of it behind.
What if I need it done by a specific date (selling the house, etc.)?
Tell us at the quote. We can fast-track most jobs with 7-10 days notice. Tight deadlines on large running stands may need a larger crew (extra cost), but we make almost every deadline. For property settlement deadlines we put it in writing.
Does weather affect the timeline?
Heavy rain is the main delay — clay soil becomes unworkable when saturated. We don’t excavate in heavy rain (worker safety + soil damage), so a wet week can push a 3-day job to next week. Light rain is fine. We monitor the forecast and reschedule one day in advance if needed.
How long until I can use my garden again?
Immediately. The work area is left tidy and disposal is done same-day. The only exception is if we install a root barrier — that area takes a day for the soil to settle before walking on it.
